At the new MILA Apartments in North Miami Beach, ‘opposites attract and come together in perfect harmony.’
Pasadena Homes Inc. began 60 years ago when Bob Miller’s grandfather, Joseph Berger, moved to Florida with the idea of enjoying a retirement of relaxation. “Relaxing was not his style,” Miller says. “He contacted his son, Adolph Berger, and his son-in-law, Leonard Miller, and suggested that they bring their families to Florida and join him in a building-related enterprise.”
Berger and Leonard Miller continued building the business developing single-family homes throughout the years. Pasadena grew to develop over 5,000 homes becoming the second-largest homebuilder in Broward County, Fla., which led to it expanding to include apartment and condominium developments. They have a long-standing reputation in South Florida as a developer of quality homes, condominiums and apartments.
“In the 1970s, after graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in real estate and urban land use, I became involved with the company. I worked in the field, learning every facet of construction,” Bob Miller remembers. “In the 1980s, I started the rental apartment division of the company and built and managed Pasadena Place Apartments, a 1520-unit apartment community in Pembroke Pines, Fla. It was the largest in South Florida at the time and one of the largest in the southeastern United States.”

Miller is of the third generation and says, “Over the years our family company has really become a family enterprise.” In 2013, he formed Pasadena at the California Club LLC and purchased a 72-acre tract in Miami-Dade County to begin development of MILA Apartments, a rental community. “The fourth generation has begun with my son, Eric Miller, who is my right-hand man and my daughter, Nicole Miller, who has been leasing MILA Apartments. And so it seems that the tradition of excellence in quality and integrity is continuing.”
Located in the heart of North Miami Beach’s California Club, MILA Apartments will offer residents the lifestyle they want. On this property, Miller planned and is constructing a nearly 1200-unit rental apartment complex situated between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. And there, MILA, a combination of the two cities, was born.
“At MILA, opposites attract and come together in perfect harmony,” says a spokesperson for The Bainbridge Co., the property manager of MILA. “It’s where the energetic pulse of Miami meets the relaxed vibe of Fort Lauderdale. Where you’ll find the electricity of South Beach and the excitement of Sun Life Stadium on one side and the sunny beaches of the Atlantic Ocean on the other.”
With Phase 1 expected to be completed this fall, the one-, two-, and three-bedroom MILA Apartments are already leasing, and there is a wait list for the units. Inside the apartment you will find high-end luxury with granite counter tops, European-style espresso cabinets, contemporary tile throughout the living room and kitchen, a designer lighting package, Whirlpool stainless steel appliances, huge walk in closets and a large patio or balcony. Fort Lauderdale-based LOTUS is a leading independent importer and distributor of porcelain, ceramic and mosaic in a variety of sizes, formats and textures. The company is importing tile flooring from Brazil for the kitchen, utility, living/dining area and the walls around the bathtubs and showers in MILA Apartments.
The spacious clubhouse offers a movie theater, fitness facility, and a business center. The Olympic-size pool is the major feature outside which includes cabanas near the pool, lounging area, and fire pits. “It’s really a lifestyle that has been created,” says Caroline Forehand, vice president of marketing and training for Bainbridge. “The Olympic-size pool is open until dusk, and residents have access to many amenities such as an outdoor grilling area, volleyball court and pet park. There are plenty of places to relax and get away at MiLa, both inside and out.”
The space reflects an extension of the apartment and is one of the reasons the units are renting quickly to young professionals and homeowners looking to downsize. There is a huge demand from people interested in renting.
Forehand further notes, “It appears that the easy flow of the floor plans along with the green space and lush environment contribute to MILA’s attraction. In addition, the location of MILA is an up-and-coming area with many amenities nearby.”
